Rochdale Judo Club was established in 1950 and is an affiliated club of the sports National Governing Body, the British Judo Association. The club provides coaching for both junior and senior players of any ability and beginners are always welcome. 

The club has a deciated team of volunteer coaches who are all certified as 'licenced to practice' by the BJA meanig they have undergone DBS vetting (formerly CRB), another condition of their recognised status is that they hold current safeguarding and first aid certificates. The team at Rochdale Judo Club also have their coach awards continually updated by their adherence to the rigorous revalidation scheme that ensures that they stay up to date with the latest developments within the sport.

Behind every successful judo club is a dedicated coaching team and Rochdale Judo Club is no exception, Warren Schofield (7th Dan), Dave Duffy (6th Dan) and Maurice Clarke (6th Dan) are ably supported by Eddie Thomas (4th Dan), Debbie Schofield (1st Dan) and Frank Chatburn (2nd Dan) who are also part of the club's coaching team. The relatively recent addition of two further 6th Dans - Andy Merchant and Sean Nuttall - has further bolstered the expertise on offer at the club. Andy brings top level competitive skills whilst Sean is a recognised kata expert and delivers the highest quality coaching of the entire range of Kodokan Kata. Sean is recognised internationally by the International Juo Federation for his kata judging prowess.
