Dave is a UKCC Level 3 Coach Award holder and was in the initial cohort of Judoka to gain the European Judo Union (EJU) Level 4 Performance Coach Award at the University of Bath, (this also doubled up as a FDSc in Sports Science).
He has served several years on BJA's National Coaching Commission and his role as a member of the National Source Group (NSG) for Coach Education ensures his place as a current Commission member.
Previously, Dave worked full time for more than 12 years as BJA Regional Development Officer and later as the BJA National Coaching Manager. During that time, he helped develop the new UK Coaching Certificate for Judo, elevating what was a National Governing Body Award to a Nationally Recognised Qualification in it's own right.
A major part of Dave's work was the formalisation of the underpinning Coach Licensing scheme which forms the basis of the Association's Coach Revalidation process ensuring that coaches are current and up to date. The process includes the requirement for a valid DBS Check, (previously CRB), and requires valid Safeguarding and First Aid Certificates.
Dave is a BJA Coach Education Tutor, Assessor and Internal Verifier active throughout the country as and when required by the National Governing Body.
